Project Objective: To positively identify and report on the Don Diego.
Ship History: The Don Diego was a 145 ft, 320 ton, iron barque built in 1855. She was scuttled in the ships' graveyard in May 1916.
The Don Diego is fairly typical of scuttled ships in the graveyard - she appears to have been well stripped and was probably only a hulk on scuttling. Bow and stern rise around 4m from the seabed with the amidships lying flat.
Project Status: On-water searches have discovered what we believe is the Don Diego about 9nm south of Point Nepean in about 72m of sea water. Further dives are required in order to positively identify the ship.
