SS Kooringa


The Kooringa was a steel steam ship, 135.2 x 23.2 x 11.2 ft. and 339 tons. On July 14th 1926 she was carrying a load of oil and benzene when she left Melbourne bound for Tasmania. A fire, believed caused when fumes drifted to the upper decks from below destroyed the ship. All hands were saved although 5 crew members were badly burnt in the blaze and had to be taken to hospital.
