Mark and Greg Hodge are the founding members of SOE, they worked together to write the guiding Principals and Values for the team. Learning to dive in 1986 in Melbourne's notorious Bass Straight, put Mark in good stead for some very harsh diving later in his career. Mark became an Instructor in 1995, although his technical diving career had started well prior to this, when as an active club member Mark was the co-ordinator of many and varied decompression dives to sites such as the Euro, Piggott and Casablanca in Melbourne's famous Shipwreck Graveyard . His current diving interests are in Deep Diving, Decompression Theory, ReBreathers, Wreck Diving, Wreck Exploration and Preservation. One of his exploits was to lead a team of divers to the bottom of Melbourne's infamous 'Rip', a dive that many experienced technical divers said could not be done. Mark has personally trained each of the recreational divers of SOE and takes great pride in mentoring the team in his beliefs in both dive safety and shipwreck preservation.
