Phill started snorkelling around the Mornington reefs around 1972 and got his first magical breath on SCUBA about 1974 (buddy breathing on a rented tank of Linley Point. He got side-tracked by moving to Melbourne and didn't complete his OW ticket until 1986. He continued diving for a few years and got sidetracked by business for a few years.

About five years ago, Phill woke up to "what was important in life" and has been in the water on every possible occasion since. Over the last several years, he has completed a number of courses to further develop his diving knowledge and skills.
