Light Ship/ Pile Light Project

Project Objective: To positively identify and develop a site plan for the "Light Ship".

Ship History: Based on information provided by a commercial fisherman, this site was discovered by Southern Ocean Exploration team members Mark Ryan, Mick Whitmore and Peter Taylor and supported by Fletch Mingramm, Tom Gorwell, Amber Nelson and Troy Stephen.

We believe the ship was a temporary channel marker or possibly a temporary replacement for the Hovell Light.

Project Status: March 2006 - With the site plan now completed and detailed sketches of the light being worked on; we will be assisting the Maritime Heritage Unit to raise the light for conservation and take timber samples to determine the origin of the construction. Once these tasks have been completed, a site report will be written.
